How to Have Fresh Blooming Flowers All Year Long

My love for fresh flowers made me want to bring them indoors year round, even during Winter. That’s why I decided to create my own indoor garden pot. You’ll be able to care for it throughout the colder months, and watch it bloom towards the end of Winter and early Spring.

How to Build Your Indoor Garden Pot

1 .Start with choosing your bulbs. One of my favorites are tulips, so I tend to gravitate towards those. For these specific pots I chose white Mondial Double Early Tulips. (I had found out I received the wrong bulbs once they bloomed, but I think they’re still beautiful!)

2. Choose your pot. (Shop the exact one I used here) Depending on how many bulbs you’d like to put into the garden pot, the sizing might differ. I like to choose a medium sized pot or basket that has draining holes. This will give you a good amount of space so the bulbs can flourish and you’ll get an abundant turn out once the flowers bloom. I decided to go with a classic terracotta pot since I already had one at home.

3. Once I received the bulbs in the mail, I immediately put them in the fridge to chill since I wasn’t going to plant them right away. In the meantime, I prepped the pots and cleaned them out, filled them with potting soil, and decided I was going to put 4 bulbs in each pot. Plant to their proper depth, and ensure the bulb is facing the right direction according to the specific bulb. Top with soil and your ready for the next step.

4. Wrap the pot in a plastic bag and poke breathing holes into it. After, store it in a spare fridge, or unheated space for the next twelve weeks, and set the date on your calendar when you’re going to take them out of the fridge.

5. Care for the Plant as needed according to the flower. Keep it indoors near a warm, sunny spot and watch it grow! I chose to put mine in indirect sunlight so they last longer. Once bloomed, if it’s warm enough you can move them to your porch or patio as well to appreciate them as you spend more time outside.

An indoor garden pot is a great gift for the holidays, birthdays and housewarming parties. You can prepare it ahead of time for them. Just note, some flowers are toxic to pets so be sure to do your research before gifting.

Indoor Garden Pot

This was my first indoor garden pot and I would say it was a success! My tulips bloomed beautifully, and although I received the incorrect bulb they still bring so much joy and smell like Spring!
