5 Ways to Identify Your Style
Fashion is always changing, and always evolving, so is your personal style.
Identifying your style can take some time! You really have to dive into what works best for your body, what colors you like, whether you enjoy trends, timeless pieces or both, what your go-to items are and most importantly how you feel when wearing the clothes! Below are 5 tips that helped me identify my style over the years.
- When shopping what is the first thing to catch your eye?
Do you light up when you see a cut off denim jacket, or a pair of faux leather leggings? If you’re struggling with identifying your style, I highly recommend being conscious of these moments when you’re out and about, or while shopping online. Over the years, I have snapped photos of pieces that I’d like to add to my wardrobe, or I screenshot them on my phone while online shopping. - Identify your favorite brands!
I find Instagram super helpful with this. I often screenshot or create a saved collection with my favorite brands, even if they are out of my price range. It helps me recognize what my eye is drawn to. - Identify your style icons!
Start recognizing who your style inspiration is, I often pay attention to street style. Inspiration comes from everywhere. ALWAYS embrace your individuality, and make the look your own. - Research photographers.
Photographers are incredibly powerful figures, I mean we have all been told a picture says a thousand words since Kindergarten right?! It’s so true! I like to research photographers from the past and present. - Create a Mood board.
Now take everything I mentioned earlier and create a mood board! Use it for inspiration and if you feel stuck while sifting through your closet you can always turn to it to stay focused. Sift through magazines, and Pinterest to find photographs and quotes that speak to you. Fun fact, if you download the Pinterest extension on google chrome, you can easily save your favorite pieces to your boards while searching the internet.
