Designing and art have always been a natural part of her life. Her desire to design began around the age of 12. In fact, the first piece Latasha designed was a pair of earrings at a wire wrapping workshop. “It was my first time making wearable art and I loved the feeling of wearing something I made,” she said. Latasha finds inspiration by connecting with nature. Whether she is spending time by the ocean, relaxing on her roof, or traveling with her fiancé. “I really enjoy texture, feel, and color. ” I’m constantly inspired by being near the ocean. I love the colors found in the water and sky especially at sunset, The texture of the wet sand and the feeling of being submerged underwater. I find them so comforting and healing, she said.”

The juxtaposition of Earthy, organic textures with free form shapes combined with smooth modern elements make Latasha Lamar incredibly unique. Her most recent collection is inspired by the French Quarter of New Orleans. Lamar’s favorite piece is The Diamond Ostrea Necklace . ” What I love the most about the necklace is how the charm’s free-form shape dances with the graceful irregularities found in the heart of the ocean. Where pearls are born. I initially carved the shape out of wax, and later decided to add the diamond to enhance the natural beauty of the charm. This necklace whispers of hidden treasures and captures the timeless beauty of the sea’s mysterious embrace. I would style the Diamond Ostrea Necklace with a white t-shirt and leather mini skirt, classic but with an edge.”

Latasha envisions the brand to branch out in many different ways. One of which is through teaching at her free jewelry workshops! “This has been a passion project of mine for so long.  I truly love teaching,  it gives me a way to experience art and excitement through someone else’s eyes.  In addition to teaching, I recently started taking pictures for my jewelry line and had such a blast.  I know the future of Latasha Lamar, the jewelry brand, includes more of these elements.”
